Welcome to the second edition in this new series, Sunday favourites! You can find the first one
here.
The first month of January was great for the blog - it was my first full month of posting five new recipes a week and I got some great feedback from you guys. There were times when it was a bit overwhelming, or I didn't get as much work done as I should have and had to work until 11pm to get a post up, but overall I'm happy with the new schedule. I always had these running documents of recipe ideas written out and then the season would end and I hadn't shared any of them, so now I'm sharing more of my ideas and it's great. Today instead of 'things I'm loving' I'm sharing a couple things I discovered or changed this week related to the blog.
This week I'll be sharing a recipe from Gena's new book,
Power Plates, a fantastic breakfast cookie, non-traditional borscht, and more. Instead of weeknight meals, for this edition I'm sharing some easy to transport lunch ideas for work or school. They work as weeknight meals, too, and they all taste great cold.
Link love:
Five bean salad • lots of beautiful beans with a tangy garlic mustard dressing - perfect for lunch or dinner.
Market veggie broth • this is great for batch cooking, and so much tastier/healthier than packaged!
Apple chicory salad • stunning as always and a nice fresh winter salad. Alanna shared on instagram that she shot these photos in low light and you'd never know, she's so talented.
Almond rhubarb cake • really I'm just excited that rhubarb will be available soon, and this cake is so pretty.
Notes:
Onions are given by weight and size now because I had a pile of notes from readers asking about it, and I had forgotten how huge the onions are in North America! The ones I use are at most about the size of a pool ball.
